An attic was installed over the second floor to accommodate storage
as well as better support the roof. The joists were installed while the
winches and jacks were forcing the walls and roof straighter. I wanted
to maintain an open feel for the second floor so there are only a couple
of supports between the attic floor and the second floor. These
supports were integrated into a customized desk on the second floor.
Extra support was obtained by dropping 2x4痴 from the apex of the
roof to the attic floor. This configuration created a series of supporting
triangles giving support to both the roof and the attic floor. |
